Recessions bore through the American economy like monsoons, vaguely predictable (market bubbles always end in bursts), economically violent and messy in the aftemath and our current recession is no different EXCEPT this time the pain is profundly deep and being leveraged by those who have most profited to further weaken the system in their own self interest. Real conservationists and progressives have the opportunity to rebuild on a far better footing.

But with corporatists at the helm of a weak government, what can we do to rebuild our jobs and communities?

HOUR ONE: Help friends of the blind Opposing Freedom Scientific's Secure and Compatible Braille Display Initiative, Chris Snyder expains. A long look at pros and cons of the just House-passed health insurance reform act: Jane Hamsher (and I) bemoan women's rights' sacrifice for it's passage, red-meat activist REDSTATE editor Eric Erickson bemoans the “Stupak Amendment” offered by pro-life Democrat Bart Stupak that he claims was a pro-life sellout and prime reason for its passage (?), and Dennis Kucinich who voted NO, takes a sigle-payer only stand.

HOUR TWO: So is there ANY reason to celebrate this vote? I look at a few who enumerate the plusses, and my own position wraps it up.

News, views and a beginning look at the GOP/conservative red-meat right's on-going strategy to run a 2010/2012 Campaign "by Hypnosis." The indoctrination goes like this: Barack Hussein Obama = socialism = foreigner = government takeover = Barack Hussein Obama = not like you and me = loss of freedom = end of America = communism = Barack Hussein Obama = you are getting very scared = Barack Hussein Obama the foreigner hates America (hear actor Jon Voight mindlessly intone the mantra) = you are voting for the GOP, etc.

When did this strategy start? With Rush Limbaugh's SHOT (shout) over the Democratic (and media) bow: I HOPE HE FAILS!!!

Limbaugh's (Heritage Foundation) goal? Destroy the bipartisan discussion that prevailed at Obama's innaguration, immediately seize the mdia through creating controversy where none exists, implant the suggestion that Obama (the foreigner) = danger and let the controversy breed...FEAR!

Been there (9/11) done that (elected GOP).

This past week-end a beloved and vital friend to ACTION POINT and Arizona activists state-wide, Katherine Ingram, passed in her sleep in hospice in the early morning hours of October 31, from advanced lung cancer.

Known to the blogging community as "Katymine", Katherine was an avid and committed woman of great joy and intelligence who embodied the ideals of progressivism: fairness, compassion, true tolerance and commitment to establishing social justice.

Join me this week with your silent prayers and rememberances for this wonderful and already much-missed friend and compatriot, Katherine Ingram.
